Welcome to Garden of England Woodturners

Whether you are interested in learning a new craft but are unsure where to start, have just acquired a lathe or are an experienced turner, we invite you to come and join our friendly, diverse and inclusive woodturning club.

With over 60 members of all ages and from all walks of life, from all over Kent, there is always someone to talk to, ask questions of or share stories with. Our more experienced members, several of whom are AWGB Approved Tutors, are always happy to share their knowledge and skills.

You can’t help but be inspired.

We meet twice a month at Dunkirk Village Hall between Canterbury and Faversham: an all-day meeting on the first Saturday of the month, and a Tuesday evening meeting ten days later. The Village Hall is a modern, warm building with its own car park, and there is additional parking on the road outside.

Our Saturday meetings usually feature a guest professional turner. We are proud to offer at least ten full-day professional demonstrations each year, and we host some of the best turners in the country. Recent demonstrators include Jason Breach, Emma Cook, Mick Hanbury, Carlyn Lindsey, Gary Rance, Joey Richardson, Darren Breeze and Les Thorne. Please see our Diary page for our 2026 programme.

Tuesday evening meetings are usually a presentation or demonstration given by a club member, often followed by the opportunity to use the club’s five lathes and tools.

We have a recently-upgraded audio-visual system with multiple cameras, large monitor screens and an audio system so that you can follow what’s going on wherever you are in the room, watching and learning from some of the country’s top turners.

We operate a club shop in association with Oliver’s Woodturning, offering (mainly) consumables at discounted prices.

We hold a monthly competition – participation is purely voluntary.

Woodturning can be a solitary pursuit; joining a club lets you share your interest with like-minded people and get new ideas and perspectives. Our meetings allow plenty of time for chat, and practical help and advice is always available if you need it, whether that’s on turning techniques or choosing tools, products or equipment. There is often the chance to acquire tools and timber without the hassles of the internet marketplaces.

New members are always welcome - your first visit is free! Get in touch via our Contact page.
